I am a family therapist that loves to focus on solutions and maintaining a positive outlook on life! As a young person, I loved to write and wanted to be a musician (a hip hop artist, hence "the 'rap' y"). My dreams of stardom were put aside when I found my second calling. Helping others to recognize and utilize their full potential is my greatest joy. I still love to write and share my thoughts and ideas with others, so I decided to start a blog to write about the recurring themes I see in my day to day life and therapeutic practice. I also draw on my personal experiences as a "troubled teen" to assist others in reaching a place of understanding and to instill hope in those who struggle to find it. As a psychology professor, my mission is to create a safe space that encourages critical thinking and social change. I hope others are able to find inspiration and motivation through some of my posts, and that they share their learning and growth to inspire and encourage others.
This blog will present ideas about several relational issues and other psychosocial topics; subjects will range from healthy parenting practices and academic enhancement, to managing conflict/anger responses and enhancing self-confidence. Additionally, there may be educational posts and discussions of current issues and popular culture trends. There is a section for questions and/or comments; this is for anyone who wants more information or would like to suggest topics. I will also have special guest bloggers presenting ideas on many topics, so check back often to benefit from differing perspectives on day to day life and relational issues.
